Welcome to the Miss Virgin Islands Scholarship Organization!

The Miss Virgin Islands Scholarship Organization is proud to announce our new Miss Virgin Islands!!! Congratulations to Shayla Solomon!

How has the world you come from shaped your dreams and aspirations?
The US Virgin Islands is small in size, but grand in all that it has to offer. I have gained a quality of life in the Virgin Islands, which is rich in culture and traditions. The history of the Virgin Islands and the struggle of those who have come before me has strengthened my life’s motto that “there are no limitations in what you can do, except the limitations in your own mind as to what you cannot do.” The continued support of my parents has always motivated me to strive for success. From a young age, the importance of an education was instilled in me. I value learning and gaining knowledge that can elevate me closer to my goals and dreams. I aspire to obtain a Masters of Science degree in public relations and create a nationally recognized youth-led media organization and teen talk show centered on youth empowerment.

Of all the ways you could succeed in your life, why have you chosen to succeed in the Miss America Pageant?
I am inspired by the opportunity that the Miss America Pageant provides women to promote a platform that they strongly believe in; continue to serve their community and proudly represent America as a positive role model and spokesperson for the national platform. Furthermore, the opportunity to receive financial assistance through scholarships to further my educational goals and pursue my life aspirations can all be achieved by being a part of the Miss America Organization.

What social issue, other than your platform, will have the greatest impact on your generation and why?

In my opinion, the issue that would have the greatest impact on my generation is job security. The act of finding a job and keeping it has become challenging for my generation. The demand is great and thousands of college graduates enter into the job market and are unable to secure a job. Spending four plus years at a college or university and obtaining a degree is a great accomplishment, but what happens when you have acquired a degree, but cannot find a job. Student loans and credit card debts are at an all time high. Lack of financial stability can cause emotional stress and have a negative effect on one’s life.
